Signed Mantetsu Steel Japanese Sword with Shin Gunto Fittings

37" OAL, 26 3/8" blade with straight hamon, copper habaki with serrated designs, cherry blossom themed menuki, brown cord and brown finished saya. The tang bears a 5-figure signature on the right left side, "N335" on the spine, and the conjoined "M and rail" logo of the South Manchurian Railway Company (aka Mantetsu). This marking is associated with the Dairen Manchurian Railroad Factory, a Mantetsu facility that produced high quality rail steel that was put to work making sword blades. While "non traditional" due to not using traditional tamahagane iron, Manchurian swords did use proper lamination and forging techniques, and are among the best "non-traditional" swords made during the war. Very good, with some light stains and nicks on the blade and mild handling marks overall.
