Description:

The back cover of the watch is engraved with "Knorr" in script lettering inside a design of a Police Chief's badge, with "X8-38P" cut into the interior of the cover, niter blue hands and black arabic numerals. The fob has four panels and connecting chain segments, with carved translucent amber-colored windows in the panels, and the included portrait features a man in police uniform with "CHIEF" on his cap, marked on the rear as being Wesley Knorr of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Wesley Knorr (1846-1907) was a carpenter by trade before entering law enforcement, becoming a Constable in 1896 and later moving up to Chief. Records from the period note a particularly dramatic incident where the Chief's nephew, Clifton Knorr, attempted to murder a lawyer with dynamite; Knorr would plead guilty, but his accused co-conspirator would be the subject of a lengthy trial. Fine overall. The hook for the fob is detached but included. The watch appears to be mechanically fine. The portrait has a clear image, some creasing in the upper right corner, and mild corner wear on the backing. Provenance: The Doug Ellison Collection
