Manufactured in August of 1943. With "AMF -P- 7.62 NATO" and "SA SPL 12 65" marked barrel, shipping box from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane in Indiana, papers, and canvas sling. The papers include a Scott Duff invoice and NWSC Crane shipping form identifying the rifle by serial number as a U.S. Navy Mark 2 Mod 1 7.62mm rifle designated as a Secretary of the Navy Trophy Rifle, pulled from normal inventory to be given as a shooting competition award. A hand-written note on the Crane papers identifies the recipient as Commander James Adell, USNR, Navy Marksmanship Team member and noted verifier of Navy trophy rifles.
