PRF - PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED OR RESTORED
The makers have kindly confirmed that this sidelock hammer gun was completed in August 1887 with 30 3/4" barrels and a snap underlever with a knob like a “lever over guard” rotary underlever gun. It was originally made for a Captain Vansittart but was apparently uncollected and was sold to an S.J. Mann Esq. Concave rib signed “J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON.” and numbered “2”. Action with carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks each signed “J. PURDEY & SONS”. With fine classic Purdey bouquet and scroll engraving throughout. Figured 14 1/2" walnut stock with checkered grip and forearm and serrated butt. London black powder and London nitro reproof marks. In maker’s brass cornered oak and leather case lined in red baize, the lid with printed Purdey trade label and load data label, the exterior of the lid with circular brass escutcheon.
