Manufactured c. 1862-65. 500 manufactured with only 200 ordered by U.S. Army. These carbines are chambered in 52 rimfire and a few Army Type carbines were made experimentally in other calibers, such as this particular example (in 44 CF caliber, firing pin absent), and these are very rare to find.
