The remarked serial number would date to 1860. The backstrap is inscribed "W.W. Blackford/CAPT. 1st VA. CAV.-1862," and information about William W. Blackford is included and indicates he served on J.E.B. Stuart's staff for the 1st Virginia Cavalry and later as a lieutenant colonel in the 1st Engineers. Includes a brown pigskin leather flap holster the consignor noted as Confederate. The holster has minor age and storage related wear.
