Description:

38 1/2" OAL, with a 28" blade, jagged hamon, squared iron tsuba with gold accented floral decoration, and a black lacquered saya with raised carved fish motifs and a set of brass chopsticks. The tang has a single mekugi-ana, with a seven-figure signature on the right side and seven on the left. Included with the sword are copies of a worksheet from a 2004 NTHK event in Chicago, which awarded a point score of 76 with attribution to the year 1866 and the Tamba region. The chopsticks are bent, the saya shows cracking and material loss, and the blade shows mild rust and edge nicks, otherwise good.
