OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

Description:

Manufactured 1861, back strap inscribed "CAPT. H.K.SIMMONS 5TH FLORIDA CAB." The included factory letter confirms the current configuration as well as purchase by the U.S. government and shipment to Captain R.H.K. Whiteley at New York Arsenal in Governor's Island, New York on 12 July 1861. According to Florida Civil War rosters, Henry K. Simmons of Company G 5th Florida Battalion Cavalry was killed in action at the Battle of Natural Bridge in March 1865.
