OD - VERY GOOD- all original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised.

Description:

Manufactured in 1865. Empty receiver sight dovetail, folding ladder rear sight with 900 yards center notch, blade front sight, and two-line barrel legend ahead of the rear sight. Sanded and reoiled stock. The serial number appears on the top barrel flat, left side of the lower tang, stock inlet, and buttplate. Only around 14,000 Henrys were manufactured in 1860-1866, and around half of them are believed to have been used by Union soldiers, mostly purchased by the men themselves, some using reenlistment bonuses. "That damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week" was one of the most advanced firearms of the war. With "The Historic Henry Rifle" by Wiley Sword where serial number "9483", only 49 numbers away from this rifle, is listed as being issued to the 3rd Regiment U.S. Veteran Volunteers (page 76).
