The factory letter lists this revolver as one of 570 sold to the U.S. War Department and shipped to Major R.H.K. Whitely at the New York Arsenal on Governor's Island, on January 24, 1862. Includes a leather left side holster (good with some tears, repairs and moderate wear). Includes information from John Spicer of Champion Hill Relics identifying the revolver as owned by Lt. Robert Forsyth/Francis "Frank" Dancy (1842-1864) of the 1st Georgia Regulars and killed at the Battle of Olustee in Florida by an exploding shell. He indicates the revolver was purchased from Dr. William Dancy. Also includes information from Major General William E. Bergin in 1953 about Dancy. Available records indicate Lt. Dancy's father was Colonel Francis Littlebury Dancy, a West Point graduate, officer in the Seminole Wars, and Quartermaster General of Florida during the Civil War.
