Description:

The included factory letter confirms the current configuration when it was shipped to the Supply Officer of the 83rd Field Artillery in Palo Alto, CA, on March 21, 1918. The 83rd was attached to the 8th Infantry Division in December 1917, as made it to France just before the Armistice in November, 1918, and continued serving in Germany as part of the U.S. occupation.
