Regulation cavalry shell jacket worn by enlisted troopers during the Civil War and the period following. It is of dark blue wool trimmed in yellow at the collar, cuffs, and waist. Standard 12-button front. The body is lined with twill and the sleeves with linen. There is a U.S. inspectors mark ink-stamped inside the right sleeve near the armpit. Very fine overall, with the shell showing minimal wear and some scattered loose stitching, a few minor tears and moderate wear to the lining, and some mild staining in the sleeves.
