This bronze by Charles Anfrie (1833-1904) depicts a dismounted French trooper of the 9th Cuirassiers Regiment from the Franco-Prussian War swinging his saber downward. The 9th Cuirassiers Regiment was part of the 3rd brigade of the cavalry division, 1st Corps, of the Army of the Rhine. The bronze is signed at the base "C. Anfrie", and it is mounted atop a brass plinth that has a plaque marked "A OUTRANCE/PAR C. ANFRIE". The bronze is excellent with both the statue and the plinth showing an attractively aged patina and minimal wear or handling evidence. A threaded stud is visible on the crest of the helm where a small pompom/plume was likely once attached. It measures approximately 21 1/2" tall including the base.
