This is an excellent example of a very late (circa late 1970/early 1980s) RIA production National Match rifle. Originally it was sold through the DCM to a Rock Island Arsenal employee. He returned it to the Small Arms shop at RIA and requested that it be upgraded to National Match configuration. The late production receiver is now fitted with an early 1954 Springfield Armory National Match barrel, along with a "NM" marked operating rod, gas cylinder, and National Match rifle sights. It was fully accurized to National Match standards with the handguard being unitized to the lower band, and the action glass bedded into a late Springfield walnut stock. The underside of the barrel and front end of the operating rod were polished, with the trigger pull set to National Match standard. As was done by RIA, the tail of the gas cylinder, operating rod, and trigger housing were all electric-etched with the last four digits of the serial number.
