Marked "BATAVIA AUTOMATIC RIFLE/PATENTED DEC. 14TH AND 28TH. 09/BATAVIA, NY" on the left and "MODEL NO. 1" on the right. "525" marked inside. Absent screw on front grip strap. This exact pistol is pictured in the article "Researching the Batavia Automatic Pistol" by Joseph J. Schroeder on pg. 133 of the Gun Collectors Digest 5th Edition (pages 133-138 taken out of the book are included with this lot), and is also pictured on pg. 60 of "Golden State Arms World's Guns". Of interesting note, the Batavia Automatic Rifle that this likely one-of-a-kind prototype pistol resembles was a close copy of the Savage Model 1903 and 1909 rifles. Baker Gun and Forging Company was sued by Savage for patent infringement, ending the short life of the Batavia Automatic Rifle. Provenance: The Bailey Brower, Jr. Collection, author of “Savage Pistols”
