Highly Desirable Martially Inspected U.S. Civil War 1863 Production New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured in 1863. Only around 14,000 Henrys were manufactured in 1860-1866. Many of these rifles were purchased and used by Union troops during the "War Between the States" such as this example Their historical significance as both Civil War rifles and important predecessors to the famous Winchester rifles has made "That damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week" one of the most valuable and sought after of all American firearms. The right side of the receiver bears an "H" inspector's stamps (Henry) and the right barrel flat is marked "C.G.C./H" (Charles G. Chapman/Henry). Stock could not be removed. Tang and buttplate screws and buttplate are replacements. Ring bulge in barrel. Includes a four piece iron cleaning rod. Serial number 3532 is a Henry identified to Co. F, 97th Illinois Inf. and is only 9 digits way from this example (see Sword's "The Historic Henry Rifle," page 81).
