Engraved 19th Century Germanic Bellows Crank Handle Tip-Up Barrel Air Gun by Johann Peterlongo of Innsbruck, Austria, with Crank Handle

"TYROLER WAFFENFABRIK", "JOH. PETERLONGO" and "INNSBRECK" marked on the barrel. Johann Peterlongo is listed as an active maker out of Innsbruck, Austria, alive between 1826-1898. These bellows air guns were generally made in the late 1700s to mid-1800s and were used primarily for indoor target shooting. Their basic feature is a conical bellows hidden in the hollowed-out wooden buttstock. Tip-up octagon barrel chambered in approximately .27 caliber/7 mm for use with darts with a hair tail, with a smooth bore that loads from the breech and the tip-up barrel releases with the trigger guard lever. No maker markings. Absent tang peep sight. Mechanically untested. Includes a crank handle. Information on Bellows air guns can be found on pages 213-214 of "Blue Book of Airguns, Thirteenth Edition". Provenance: The Dr. Robert D. Beeman Collection
