Description:

Government records list 6,686 of these carbines purchased for the Navy. The leather cover on the barrel was designed to protect the barrel from corrosive saltwater; many are badly damaged or absent due to extensive service, with this example still retaining it. Blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, and standard markings.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with traces of original finish, gray patina, scattered light pitting/freckling, and some light handling marks in the stock. The leather has general age related cracking and flaking. Mechanically fine.
