Description:

Part of an Imperial Russian contract with Colt for 50,000 percussion-altered smooth-bored muskets to be delivered by April 28, 1856, for use in the Crimean War. The war ended before the contract could be delivered and was subsequently canceled by Russia. This example was originally a U.S. Model 1816 Musket, which was converted by Colt. "1854" dated lock plate and barrel, U.S. markings on barrel, three cartouches on left stock flat, two cartouches at rear of lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Good overall with much of the metal bright, some light pitting scattered throughout, and a few minor cracks, chips, and dings on the varnished stock. Mechanically excellent.
