Description:

Manufactured in 1863. Only around 14,000 Henrys were manufactured in 1860-1866. Many of these rifles were purchased and used by Union troops during the "War Between the States" such as this example. This rifle's serial number falls into the range of 3000-4000, 800 of which are known to have been shipped to the 1st D.C. Cavalry Regiment on 9 March 1864. Their historical significance as both Civil War rifles and important predecessors to the famous Winchester rifles has made "That damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week" one of the most valuable and sought after of all American firearms. The right side of the receiver bears an "HH" inspector stamp (Henry) and the right barrel flat is marked "C.G.C./H" (Charles G. Chapman/Henry). The matching serial number is marked on top of the barrel, left of the lower tang, in the stock inlet (faint), inside the buttplate, and on both buttplate screws. Includes a copy of a LeRoy Merz authentication letter. Provenance: The Collection of David L. DeLullo

Rating Definition:

Very good, the iron showing mostly a grey-brown patina with a few noticeable patches of pitting and the brass showing an attractively aged patina. The refinished wood is also very good with some minor handling/vise marks and a very faint cartouche. Mechanically fine.
