A) U.S. Inspected Remington "Old Model Army" Percussion Revolver

Description:

Manufactured early in the Civil War, circa 1862, this is a transitional example of an Old Model Army. Single letter sub-inspectors markings on various components. The top barrel flat is marked with faint "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858" above "E. REMINGTON & SONS.ILION NEWYORK.U.S.A." Matching serial number "15160" marked on the underside of the barrel, trigger guard lug, left side of the grip frame and faintly visible handwritten on the interior of both grip panels. Two-piece walnut grips with a faint boxed script inspection cartouche stamped on the lower left.

Rating Definition:

Good with brown and gray patina, scattered light pitting and freckling, with a legible barrel address. The trigger guard has a bright golden patina. The grips are also good as re-oiled, with some wear and minor chips along the bottom edges, a small crack in the upper right corner, scattered dents and scratches, and a visible cartouche. Mechanically fine.

23,000 manufactured c. late 1850s to early 1860s, with 21,000 reportedly sold to the U.S. government.

Rating Definition:

Fair with scattered mild pitting, corrosion, and wear. Grip is good with scattered dents, chips and scratches. Mechanically fine.
