Description:

Drawing inspiration from the British STEN gun, the M3 was developed as a high-speed, low-cost substitute for the Thompson family of submachine guns. While lacking the aesthetic charm of the Thompson, the M3 was a serviceable weapon, and would be America's go-to SMG through World War II and following conflicts. This example has been subjected to deactivation and later partial reactivation; a steel rod was driven through the chamber and the barrel welded into place on the receiver, with the welds later cut off but the rod still present. Blade front and peep rear sights, model nomenclature and Guide Lamp markings on the left side of the magazine well, the early pattern cocking handle on the right, the combination dust cover and safety on top and a textured grip. A set of British "crown" proofs are present on the receiver, bolt and barrel, the latter also bearing London Proof House tonnage markings. The magazine, oiler holder, and buttstock are absent. Green canvas sling included.

Rating Definition:

Good as reactivated, barrel still steel plugged, with ground down and cleaned up welds at the front of the receiver and rear of the barrel collar, areas of touched up finish, and scattered oxidization which is heavier and denser on the interior of the receiver. Wire buttstock, retainer absent. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
