Description:

Developed in the 1940s and introduced in 1945, the U.S. M18 recoilless rifle drew heavy inspiration from British designs, using a plastic-lined shell with perforations in the side to vent gas out into the chamber and out the breech to counter the recoil forces of firing. While the M18 struggled with German (and later Soviet) armor, it was very useful as a form of "pocket artillery" for delivering high explosive and white phosphorous shells, seeing use as late as Vietnam with both the NVA and the ARVN. This example is fitted with an M1917 pattern pintle for mounting the weapon to a machine gun tripod (not included). Fitted with flip-up iron sights, pistol grip, combination foregrip/monopod, combination shoulder rest/rear bipod, and a rubberized cheekpiece. Included with the lot is one sub-caliber training aid/gallery practice round for use with .22 caliber, and an M86F scope.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with areas of brown patina on the barrel, scattered handling marks, and mild spotting. The bipod needs adjustment, as the legs do not lock into position, and the optics are crisp with a well defined reticle. Mechanically fine. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479, National Firearms Act.
