According to a Springfield Research Service letter, this rifle is referenced in Ordnance Department file 353.2/1571 as a rifle sold at the 1927 National Matches, and was sold by Erie Ordnance Reserve Depot to an individual in Dayton, Ohio, on August 28, 1927. Manufactured in 1926. "SA/(flaming bomb)/5-26" marked barrel with star gauge stamp on the muzzle, bright bolt matching electrostencil numbered to the gun with headless cocking piece and reverse orientation safety lever, polished receiver side rails and follower, smooth pistol grip arsenal replacement "C" stock, with drawing number "D28179" stamped on top of the handguard and the number "D1836" on the underside of the buttstock.
