Description:

This is a professionally made copy of a New Haven Arms Co. Volcanic lever action carbine. The original pistols and carbines were manufactured in 1857-1860. Only an estimated 1,000 total carbines were produced distributed across three different barrel length configurations. The various Volcanic firearms are important pieces in the evolution of lever action firearms and predecessors to the New Haven Arms Co. Henry rifle and Winchester Model 1866. This very well-made carbine has serial number "174" stamped on the right of the lower tang, lever, and inside the buttstock channel. "47" is also stamped underside of the buttplate and the buttstock under the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as professionally made, with smooth gray patina on the iron, a brightened appearance on the brass, some light freckling, and some light dents and scratches on the re-oiled stock. Mechanically very good. This is a professionally made representative example of the iconic New Haven Arms Co. Volcanic carbines that laid the ground work for the famous Henry rifle and subsequent Winchester lever actions.
