Description:

The factory letter lists this revolver in .38/40 with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, nickel finish, and grip carved with "ox head" and indicates it was shipped to Phelps-Dodge Co. Bisbee, Arizona Territory, c/o Detroit Copper Co. on December 29, 1911. The powerful mining company Phelps-Dodge Co. owned stakes in the Detroit Copper Co. and the Copper Queen Mine. The records did not list engraving. This revolver is documented by serial number on references p. 156 of Keith Cochran's "Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia Vol. II." The engraving includes complex scrollwork, beaded backgrounds, wavy line and dot patterns, an interesting serpentine design on the butt, and floral designs. The right grip is engraved with an ox head and has "Gunart/Lakewood/N.J." (Sol Weisenfeld's company active in the 1970s and 1980s) on the inside. Matching serial numbers are visible on the frame, trigger guard, and butt. Provenance: The Charles Marx Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good as professionally embellished with crisp engraving, much of the nickel plating remaining, minor pitting, general mild wear, and lighter wear and crisp carving on the grips. Mechanically fine.
