Manufactured in the mid-19th century. "DERINGER/PHILADELA" marked lock and breech plug, "MADE FOR/A.J. Plate/SAN FRANCISCO" marked barrel with six-groove rifling. "4" on the trigger guard tang. Plate purchased pairs from Henry Deringer and then further pistols from Slotter & Co.

Good with some original brown on the barrel, gray and brown patina on the balance of the lock and barrel, some oxidation, aged patina on the mounts, small screw added to the trigger guard finial, replaced pin on the wrist escutcheon, plate ahead of the lock absent, and distinct engraving and markings. The stock is fair with some chips, worn checkering, and a crack on the left. Mechanically fine.
