Description:

1) Unmarked short sword, 23 1/2" OAL, 19" blade, twin bar handguard and a wood grip. With an included note attributing the item as having been found in a crevice near Mannington, West Virginia, circa 2001; the area is known to have been targeted by Confederate forces attempting to disrupt the operations of the B&O Railroad relatively early in the war. 2) D-guard bowie, 17 1/2" OAL, 13 1/2" rough blade, round disc crossguard, wood grip. 3) D-guard bowie, 18 1/2" OAL, 13 1/2" blade, flattened guard, smooth wood grip. 4) Bowie knife, 17" OAL, 12" clip point blade, brass guard marked "SCOTTSVILLE, VA" on the right side, wood grip panels. 5) "ALEXANDER/SHEFFIELD" bowie, 14 1/2" OAL, 9 1/2" clip point blade with American Eagle decoration, brass guard, brass grip panels with American Eagle and "LIBERTY/AND/UNION" themed decoration.

Rating Definition:

1) Fair, with a polished blade, replaced grip, and mild wear and pitting overall. 2) Relic grade, with pitting, sanding and wear. 3) Fair, with spotting on the blade, a mixed patina, and a few minor dings on the grip. 4) Fair. The edge has been polished and sharpened, with the blade otherwise showing a deep brown patina, grip panels show chips and cracks, mild wear overall. 5) Fair as cleaned, with scattered pitting and a mixed brass patina.
