A) British Pattern 1853 Enfield Smoothbored Rifle-Musket

Bore Condition: The enlarged smooth bore is darkened with pitting.
Description:

Manufactured in 1862. The lock is marked "1862/TOWER" at the center, with St. Edward's Crown without the "VR" below at the rear indicating this was a commercial arm, not one accepted by the British government. Many British companies exported rifles for use by both the Confederacy and the Union during the American Civil War. Birmingham commercial proof marked breech and two "25" gauge marks.

Rating Definition:

Fair as refinished, with brown patina, scattered pitting, wear, absent rear section of the barrel tang, absent broken buttplate with a small section of it remaining on top, and a replacement hammer. The barrel has been shortened at the muzzle and converted to smoothbore. Stock is also fair with numerous scattered dents, chips, cracks, and absent sections. Broken/partly absent replacement ram rod, absent middle barrel band. Mechanically non-functional, hammer has no spring pressure, needs work.
