Description:

The reshaped Palmetto Armory lock is dated "1852". The consignor's information indicate they believed this might be an experimental wall gun made for the State of South Carolina. The basic form is similar to American long rifles, but the gun has a large and somewhat crudely formed octagon to round smoothbore barrel that measures approximately .81 caliber at the muzzle and has a blade front sight and an additional round sight on the band around the muzzle, notch rear sight, and an "SC" marking towards the breech.

Rating Definition:

Fair with dark brown patina overall, oxidation, pitting, absent screw from the drum, some chips and scratches on the stock, bent ramrod, and refinished/repaired stock. Mechanically fine.
