Two Civil War U.S. Breech Loading Percussion Carbines

A) U.S. Massachusetts Arms Co. Smith Carbine

Manufactured c. 1861-1865. Faintly visible cartouche stamped on the left stock wrist.

ConditionFair with gray patina, wear, and scattered pitting. Wood is also fair with numerous scattered scratches, dents, chips, scuffs and cracks. Absent hammer, absent lower tang screw, absent saddle ring. Mechanically needs work, loosely fitting joint section.

B) U.S. Burnside Fifth Model Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured c. 1863-1865. Period carved name that appears to read "WLACOCK" on the left of the buttstock.

ConditionGood with gray patina, scattered freckling and some light pitting. Wood is also good as sanded and varnished, with numerous scattered dents, scratches, and some chips. Loose front barrel band. Broken breech latch spring, requires manual assistance for locking in the closed position, otherwise mechanically functions.
