Description:

The Model 1795 is historically significant as the first official standardized U.S. martial arm and the first firearm manufactured at the U.S. armories. This example features the first type lock marking with "SPRINGFIELD" in a vertical curve at the tail of the lock and Federal Eagle looking to its right above a script "US" at the center, "P/eagle/V" proofs marked on the upper left breech of the barrel, and "1799" date marking on top of the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mostly visible markings in the metal, scattered pitting and some light wear, a broken/absent rear section of the barrel tang with an extra empty hole, artificially aged modern replacement top jaw, jaw screw, and ram rod. Stock is also fair as re-oiled, with numerous scattered dents, scratches, chips and cracks. Mechanically fine.
