Attractive Engraved and Inlaid European Flintlock Pistol with Carved Stock and Inscription From Nelson A. Rockefeller to Amon G. Carter

Made c. 18th century, likely in France. It was later inscribed to Amon G. Carter (1879-1955) from Nelson A. Rockefeller (1908-1979). The inscription is located discreetly on the pommel. Nelson was a prominent member of the wealthy Rockefeller family and served as the 49th governor of New York as well as Vice President for Gerald R. Ford. Carter was the creator and publisher of the "Fort Worth Star-Telegram" as well as being a nationally known civic booster for Fort Worth, Texas. It has extensive floral engraving and brass inlays, as well as relief busts on the barrel, sideplate, wrist escutcheon, and three on the pommel, and the stock is finely carved.

ConditionGood, with mixed grey/brown patina, some scattered light pitting/freckling, and the wood fair with some cracks, edge chipping, and handling marks. Mechanically fine.
