Description:

The Colt Model 1847 Walker is among the most iconic and highly sought-after antique American firearms, but they are very scarce as many were destroyed in service in the mid-19th century and others have been lost over the last 175+ years. The original intent was to issue a pair of Walkers to each man in the U.S. Regiment of Mounted Rifles, and the revolvers were marked for A Company through E Company. There were 120 revolvers marked for E Company out of the total of 1,000 U.S. contract revolvers. Many of the revolvers were used by the First Regiment of Texas Mounted Rifle Volunteers led by John Coffee Hays. The last 500 Walker revolvers were delivered to the Ordnance Department in March 1848 after the war was over, but Colt Walker revolvers were issued and used on the southwestern frontier in the antebellum era by both federal and local units, and the Walkers remained in use in limited numbers during the American Civil War. E Company No. 35 is one of only approximately 19 known surviving E Company revolvers. The serial number is listed on page 80 of "The Colt Whitneyville-Walker Pistol" by Lt. Col. Robert D. Whittington III. The revolver has a German silver blade front sight, a very slow twist in the rifling, "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY" on top of the octagonal section of the barrel reading from the breech towards the muzzle, "US/1847" on the right side of the barrel over the wedge "E COMPANY No 35" on the left side of the barrel and frame, "E COMY No 3•" at the front of the trigger guard, "E COM-Y No 35" on the cylinder, "35" on the wedge and at the front of the frame between the studs, small notch on the hammer for a rear sight, knurled hammer spur, and smooth walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fair as restored/assembled with artificial dark gray and brown patina and mild pitting on the iron, moderate holster wear at the muzzle of the stretched barrel, filed front sight, weak loading lever latch for the replacement loading lever assembly, repaired hammer, modified arbor pin, replacement trigger guard, the butt serial number ground off and others remarked with E Company markings, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically functions. This is a resurrected original example of the legendary Colt Model 1847 Walker revolver!
