Description:

Manufactured in 1915, subsequently fitted with a Model 1913 Warner & Swasey "telescopic musket sight" scope. The U.S. Army reportedly purchased 5,730 Model 1913 W&S musket sights between 1913-1918, and Model 1903 rifles equipped with these type of sights were used in the Mexican Punitive Expedition in 1916 and in France by the American Expeditionary Force between 1917-1918. "SA/(flaming bomb)/7-15" marked barrel, bolt marked "18" on the lug. The left side of the telescopic sight body is roll-stamped: "TELESCOPIC MUSKET SIGHT/MODEL of 1913 No. 4881/THE WARNER & SWASEY CO." above the two-line address and patent dates. The reproduction telescopic sight mount is unmarked. Includes a "1916" dated Rock Island Arsenal brown leather scope case, and an oiler in the butt compartment.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished, subsequently upgraded to current configuration, with some of the finish, edge wear, smooth brown patina, freckling and a few patches of minor pitting visible underneath the finish. Stock is good as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered dents and scratches. Absent front trigger housing screw and filler screws added on right rear sight of receiver. Bolt unable to be cycled with scope affixed due to clearance issues with the bolt handle bumping the rubber eye cup, otherwise mechanically fine. Scope is very good with hazy but partly viewable optics, and a replacement rubber eye cup. Scope case is very good.
