A) Civil War U.S. Springfield Model 1861 Smoothbored Percussion Rifle-Musket

Bore Condition: The enlarged smooth bore is darkened with pitting/corrosion.
Description:

"1863" dated tail of the lock, Federal Eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" at the front of the lock, non-visible barrel markings.

Rating Definition:

Fair with brown patina, scattered mild pitting and wear. Stock is good with numerous scattered dents, scratches, chips and an absent section to the right of the barrel tang. Absent rear sight, absent ram rod. Broken percussion nipple, hammer is off center, otherwise the lock mechanically functions.

Description:

Manufactured in 1832. Approximately 5,700 of these rifles were originally manufactured by Simeon North between 1830-1836, but relatively fewer have survived. "U.S/S.NORTH/MIDLtn/CONN./1832" marked on the breech block.

Rating Definition:

Fair, with traces of original finish, a separated frame (loosely retained in the stock) and barrel, brown patina, scattered heavy corrosion and pitting. Stock is good as re-oiled, with scattered dents, scratches, cracks, and a loose separated cracked section on top behind the frame. Absent ram rod. Absent top jaw and screw, absent frizzen, no hammer spring pressure, mechanically non-functional.
