Description:

These were the last of the smoothbore muskets manufactured by the U.S. arsenals, the primary arms of the U.S. Army in the Mexican-American War, and remained widely used during the Civil War by both sides. "HARPERS/FERRY/1846" marked tail of the lock, Federal eagle and shield motif over "US" at the center, "1846" dated barrel tang, "V/P" above eagle head proofs at the breech, two bordered script cartouches stamped on the left flat, "U.S" marked buttplate, with original smoothbore.

Rating Definition:

Good with scattered mild pitting, brown and gray patina. Stock is also good with numerous scattered scratches and dents, and a few minor cracks. Mechanically excellent.
