Description:

Receiver manufactured in March 1942, and marked with British "crown/BNP" proof on top of the chamber likely indicating shipment to Britain during World War II as Lend-Lease aid. "S-A-3-42" marked barrel with bright chamber ring and British proofs on top above the gas cylinder, Springfield Armory pattern narrow base gas cylinder with retained front sight screw cap, chamfered lock, and single slot screw, type 2 lock-bar rear sight assembly, "-12 SA/RE5B" bolt, un-cut "3 SA" operating rod, stamped short-fork follower rod, "8" follower, and "-5-SA" trigger housing with -2 SA" hammer, "-6SA" safety, and an unmarked milled trigger guard. Fitted with a faint boxed "S.A./G.H.S." (U.S. Springfield Armory, Brig. Gen. Gilbert H. Stewart) inspection cartouched walnut stock set with arched lower band and solid retaining pin, along with a grooved rear handguard clip. Includes a flat-buckle M1 web sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining original parkerized finish with some light edge wear, flaking period added black paint on the gas cylinder, minor cycling wear, some light pitting/spotting visible under the woodline, some dried grease, and minor handling marks. The stock is very good as sanded and re-oiled with some minor dents. Mechanically excellent.
