This great artistic couple commemorated the western passage of the American settlers going out to the west for them to seek their fame and fortune in Oregon. The plaque shows the male leading the oxen drawn wagon and his wife holding the reins of the wagon. The bright sun is in the foreground and is shinning over the western high plains. James E, Fraser is best known for the sculpture of "The End of the Trail" bronze as well as the buffalo nickel. The plaque is signed on the bottom "JE&LG Fraser Sculptors". No foundry marks, measures 16 1/2 inches in diameter and weighs 9 pounds. This subject matter was also used for a 1930 U.S. mint commemorative coin. (Am: Husband and Wife Team, 20th Century) Very good, there is an even nicely aged patina with some scattered small spots of pitting.
