Exceptional Model 1905 Springfield Bayonet Dated 1908 with Scarce First Pattern M1905 Scabbard Dated 1907

Springfield M1905 Bayonet marked "SA/Ordnance Shell and Flame/1908" on the ricasso and "US/267814" on the reverse. The blade is polished bright and the guard and hilt are blued. The walnut grips have the rough, milled, finish. The pommel is stamped with a small "A" indicating that it has the altered, second pattern safety catch. The bayonet is fitted with a second pattern, leather covered, swivel scabbard with 2 7/8-inch blued throat. The back of the leather cover is stamped: "R.I.A./1907/JEN". The bayonet is accompanied by a rare, first pattern M1905 Scabbard with 1 1/2-inch metal throat. The back of the leather scabbard is marked: "R.I.A./1906/H.E.K." in three lines.

ConditionExcellent. The bright blade retains nearly all of the original polish. The guard has 95% or more of the original blue finish intact. Markings are perfect. The grips are in near mint condition and show minimal handling. The second pattern scabbard is in fine condition. About 80% of the blue finish is present on the throat and hanger. The leather body retains most of the medium russet finish and shows light handling and storage wear. Markings are sharp. The first pattern M1905 Scabbard is in good condition. The throat and hanger have a brown age patina. The leather body is smooth with some flex marks. The wooden liner has been removed. Markings are sharps. An outstanding M1905 Bayonet and second pattern scabbard with rare first pattern scabbard.
