U.S. Property Ross Model 1905 Rifle with Original Bayonet and Scabbard

Canadian Ross Mark II bolt action rifle with U.S. Army "Ordnance bomb" in front of the trigger housing and " U.S. /795" property markings stamped behind the trigger guard. This rifle is possibly one of the Ross rifles purchased by the U.S. Army for training purposes shortly after the United States entered WWI in 1917. The left side of the receiver is marked "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC CANADA. 1905 / PATENTED". The right side of the butt stock is stamped with numerous issue and inspection markings. The front sight is a hooded blade sight and the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. Bayonet lug, casehardened bolt and steel buttplate with compartment. The bayonet is marked "ROSS RIFLE Co. / QUEBEC / PATENTED 1907" and the ordnance bomb over "U.S." on the wooden grip. The brown leather scabbard is also marked with the ordnance bomb over "U.S." on the front with Canadian issue marks on the back.

ConditionFIne. The barrel retains approximately 60-70% of the original blue finish while the remaining metal parts have a smooth grayish patina. The stock is also very good with scattered minor dings and dents. The bayonet and scabbard are very fine. The wooden handle on the bayonet has scattered minor nicks and dents, the blade has been cleaned to a gray patina with some light discoloration and the metal portion on the grip is a smooth dark patina. All markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
