The included Tom Selleck letter states this set was made for him by the Colt Custom Shop with the serial numbers "MAGNUM-1" through "MAGNUM-3," in reference to Selleck's massively successful role starring as Thomas Magnum in Magnum P.I. This role saw Selleck, and his equally famous Ferrari 308 GTS, solving crimes in paradisaical locations across Hawaii. A fourth pistol, a Colt MkIV Series 80 Combat Commander serial number "MAGNUM4" was also made in addition to this set. The Selleck letter also states that after the success of his 1990 film "Quigley Down Under," he acquired the Shiloh Sharps rifle built for the movie (also featured in this auction in Lot 1066), which inspired him to have the three-gun set made to commemorate the show that he states "literally changed my life." This set was subsequently loaned to the NRA Firearms Museum where it was on display to the public along with other well known Hollywood guns, including the Smith & Wesson Model 29 from "Dirty Harry" and Beretta 92FS from "Die Hard," with an included NRA National Firearms Museum letter signed by Director Philip Schreier thanking Selleck for the temporary loan. The set, comprised of a Special Combat Government (MAGNUM-1), Special Combat Officer's (MAGNUM-2), and MkV Series 80 Mustang (MAGNUM-3) model, is housed in an aged Colt walnut display case with green felt interior and included key. "MAGNUM-1" is fitted with fixed blade front and adjustable "BO-MAR" rear sights, and an attractive set of checkered grips marked "MAGNUM-1" on the interior. The slide and frame feature 50% coverage masterfully executed floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background and gold inlaid serial number "MAGNUM-1" on the right side. The left side of the frame under the grips is marked "CCS5" and the right side marked "TSI" and "ENG J. ADAMS" for Colt Master Engraver John Adams Sr. Also included with the set is a copy of "Hollywood Guns: An NRA National Firearms Museum Production" which features the set when it was on display.

Excellent as master engraved by John Adams Sr. for Tom Selleck, retaining 99% plus original blue finish with minimal handling evidence and crisp engraving. The grips are also excellent with sharp checkering. The case is very fine with light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
