Description:

Manufactured c. 1915-1937, with production reportedly significantly disrupted during World War I, while Spanish arms manufacturers cranked out handguns for military contracts by the thousands. These carbines were sold commercially in Spain, with many being utilized by police forces, and many were shipped to South America to satisfy a growing market. This example in particular appears to be of a presentation grade, above and beyond general production and has remained in abnormally high condition given the typical use these working guns received. The standard Garate Anitua address on top of the barrel along with the "CAL. 44 L" caliber marking, meaning "44 Largo", the Spanish name for .44-40 W.C.F. The tiger trademark is on the left side of the frame and the serial number is on the bottom. The three-line model marking is on the upper tang. It is fitted with a blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, saddle ring on the left of the receiver, and sling swivels on the lower barrel band and buttstock. It is mounted with a very finely figured, smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor steel buttplate. Includes a black leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 97% plus original blue finish, which shows a slight plum hue, and 98% of the vibrant original case colors with some scattered light handling marks overall. The wood is very fine with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
