Manufactured in 1901, this is an outstanding example of a Colt Sheriff's Model 1877 Lightning revolver. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address, while the caliber marking is on the left. The left side of the frame is marked with the three-line patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. It features the rare and desirable, Sheriff's Model length 2 1/2 inch barrel and is not fitted with an ejector. It is fitted with blade front and frame top groove rear sights, as well as a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colts at the tops. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration (grips not listed), as well as the desirable 2 1/2 inch barrel, as well as shipment to Norvell Shapleigh Hardware Company in St. Louis on 17 July 1901, a first stop for many Colt revolvers that were headed farther west to the frontier.

Excellent, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish, 90% plus of the vibrant original case colors, and 98% of the bright original nitre blue with brown patina visible on the right side of the barrel and some light turn marks on the cylinder. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
