Description:

This is a very fine example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. This example is complete with an original, matching numbered, DWM factory checkered, walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt by DWM to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete specifically with the various stocked pistols being produced throughout Europe at this time. They have an 11 3/4 inch barrel and factory hanger on the front end of the frame that attaches to a small walnut forend which houses a small spring accelerator inside. This accelerator helps cycle the barrel by helping to return the barrel/upper receiver into battery due to the additional weight of the longer barrel. These 1902 carbines have the rare/desirable early features such as the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken". The full serial number is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (98) are marked on the various small parts. The forend is also correctly numbered (598) inside the cutout for the frame extension and also matches the pistol. The grips are numbered (47) on the back side of each panel. The stock is completely original and unaltered and has the hard-plastic/horn type buttplate and an original lower sling swivel. The original attaching iron on the stock is numbered (598) on top. The magazine has a nickel plated body with the correct wood base. Comes in a highly desirable bound takedown case containing a pin punch, dismantling tool, two extra nickel plated magazines with the correct wood base, cleaning rod with oil container, and period box of 7.65mm cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blued finish remaining with minor edge and high spot wear overall, some minor spotting/speckling on top of the barrel, the side plate, and left side of the frame area, and minor thinning/scratches on the front grip strap. The various small parts retain 90% of the refurbished straw colors with slightly more wear on the face of the trigger. The replaced grips are fine as well as the other wood with some very minor nicks and dings on the forend and buttstock. The presentation case is also very fine showing some discoloration and minor wear to the exterior and limited high spot wear on the otherwise very fine original lining. A very fine example of a scarce presentation cased 1902 DWM Luger carbine with stock.
