Description:

Manufactured around the mid-19th century. These distinctive knife pistols were manufactured in France by Joseph-Célestin Dumonthier, and "DUMOUTHIER" is marked on the left side above the barrel. Similar weapons were also manufactured in Norway and Sweden for postal workers. The 8 inch blade has fullers that both provide strength and prevent the bullets from striking the blade. The upper parts of the guard act as the hammers, and when they are pulled back, a single folding trigger descends from the front strap. The German silver scales have spiral patterns, and the weapon is accompanied by a scabbard with brass drag and German silver throat.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottled gray and brown patina, light pitting, aged patina on the German silver grips and scabbard mounts, split in one part of the throat piece, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
