Manufactured in 1963, this is one of only 39 second generation Colt New Frontier revolvers in .38 Special with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. Don Wilkerson points out in The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver: 1955-1975" that one in every 109 New Frontier revolvers is a .38 Special with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. Wilkerson also states the low production numbers makes .38 Special revolvers nearly five times rarer than the already rare .44 Special revolvers. This example is fitted with blade front and adjustable rear sights. It bears the Colt model and caliber marking on the left side of the barrel, and address on top. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, triggerguard, and backstrap, with partial serial numbers on the front cylinder face and inside the grips. The assembly number "811" is marked on the loading gate and rear of the frame.

Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue finish and case colors with limited handling marks and a faint cylinder drag line. Mechanically excellent.
