20th Century American Silver Mounted Flintlock Kentucky Pistol by Hacker Martin for James T. Holley

The rifled barrel has a silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, and "Hacker Martin JTH" signed on top. Hacker Martin was born in 1895 and learned to build guns the traditional Appalachian way from his grandfather. He is one of the 20th century craftsmen credited with keeping the tradition of hand built traditional American rifles alive into the 20th century and was an inspiration for many of the artisans working today. The pistol is accompanied by sales information and a City of Chicago Gun Registration card for James T. Holley indicating he purchased the pistol in 1963. Jim Holley was also a figure active in muzzleloading revival through much of the 20th century. The lock has "J M/MASLIN/WARRANTED" at the center and some floral engraving. The trigger guard is brass, and the remaining furniture is silver. Provenance: The James T. Holley Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating definitionGood with an attractive antique appearance, minor oxidation, and general mild wear. The stock is very good and has some scrapes and dings, minor gap at the back of the lock, and some faint hairline cracks. Mechanically fine.
