Arabic Inscribed Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Musket

Manufactured in 1874 and featuring a barley corn front sight that doubles as the lug for a socket bayonet (not included). standard two-line address and King's patent marking on top of the barrel, notch and folding ladder rear sight graduated out to 900 yards on the ladder, "S" on top of the barrel at the breech, the serial number on the frame behind the trigger, an Arabic inscription on the left side plate and another on the buttplate, musket forearm and buttstock with an unclear cartouche on the left near the heel, and a modern russet leather sling. The side plate's inscription appears to translate to "A gift from the Saudi Arabian Army to Commander Roy Roberts. Tabuk." The buttplate inscription's meaning is unclear. This may related to U.S. Sergeant Roy Roberts who participated in Operation Desert Storm. There was also Lt. Colonel Roy Austin Roberts (1933-2021) who served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1976 and is noted as having been stationed in Saudi Arabia.

ConditionVery good with 20% original blue finish, strong original case colors on the hammer, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance of the iron, attractive age darkened patina on the frame and buttplate, and general mild wear. The stock and forearm are fair and have heavier wear consisting mainly of extensive dents, gouges, and deep scrapes. Mechanically excellent.
