Manufactured in 1894 per Madis, the first year of production, with the desirable "first model" receiver featuring the "10 o'clock" screw by the loading gate. The two-line Winchester address and caliber marking are on the top barrel flat. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, and folding tang peep sight. Mounted with a plain forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the octagon barrel in .38-55 caliber and plain trigger. The letter states the rifle was received in the warehouse on March 18, 1895, shipped on June 15, 1895 as well as listing a repair and return date for May 8, 1896.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 60% plus faded original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The receiver and bolt retain 85% plus original blue finish. 40% original nitre blue remains on the loading. The hammer and lever retain 50% original case colors. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
